Enterprise Resource Planning Platform

Projekt202, 2012

Problem - Redefine enterprise business management software for a company with international clients in industries, such as government, education, manufacturing, service, and zoos. The company’s existing software was dated and challenging to navigate, but it allowed for an unparalleled level of customization. The software needed to be adaptable to meet clients’ diverse data and workflow requirements and maintain flexibility for our client and its customers.

Solution - We wanted to make it easier for people to find and manage their work. Custom home-screen widgets allowed users to quickly access the areas of the application they cared about while providing insights and statuses. Complex processes were illustrated so a user could clearly identify an item’s stage and surface bottlenecks, which allowed her to address them more quickly. This also made it easier for even occasional users to work in the system.  Based on the users' role information is raised contextually to increase users’ understanding and efficiency.

Process Breakdown

Research

We interviewed stakeholders and key users. Working with the client, we decided to focus on HR users and their workflow while continuously validating with other personas and workflows.

Key Workflow High-Level Concepts

We identified key workflows focused on our HR user. We quickly white-boarded a variety of ideas and concepts, selecting the best elements to create our new workflows.

Alternate Workflows and Detailed Designs

We then created alternative workflows for our key users and moved into detailed design, seeking opportunities to help users understand their place in the process and to elevate relevant information to them.

Design Systems Library

We created a design systems library, patterns, and elements for the developers to use as they built the new experience and extended our designs and framework to additional workflows.

Visual Design

Visual designers applied a new look and feel to a few key screens and further emphasized relevant information to help users.
